Johnny Stone “Phones and Topics”

Phone calls from listeners are absolute gold for a personality driven show. People love to listen to other people and compare experiences. One thing I’ve learned is that those calling into the show to comment are usually funnier and more intelligent than I could ever be! Some callers become regulars and that’s a good thing. One guy that became a regular for me is “Papa Steve”, who I called “A man who knows things and gets things done”. He could be funny, touching and whimsical at the same time. A wonderful addition to the show!

If you take phone calls, here is a list of 25 topics for you to prime the pump!

1. What funny, unexpected thing have you discovered in motherhood?
2. Why do men stand over the handyman, watching everything he does?
3. If we asked your kids what you always say, what would it be?
4. What is the most lost you’ve been and where?
5. Who did you go to school with who is now famous?
6. Do you use the dishwasher for things other than dishes?
7. Finish the sentence…”Today is a great day because…”
8. What do you have to carry with you or you don’t feel complete?
9. Is there someone listening now who in the past said you would never listen again?
10. When a baby cries at night, should you pick it up or let it cry itself out?
11. Can you really save that much with coupons? What is the most you saved?
12. To pacifier or not to pacifier. That is the question.
13. Things every new mom needs in the house.
14. In what strange place have you found your cel phone/TV remote?
15. Have you ever had a super glue moment?
16. Have you ever hidden something so well that you can’t find it?
17. What is the most ridiculous thing you bought because it was on sale?
18. Strangest thing you found in your child’s pocket?
19. What would you like to see come back in style from the past?
20. Words you have to spell out in front of your pets or they go wild?
21. The propane vs. charcoal controversy.
22. You know it’s Spring/Summer/Winter/Fall when….
23. What have you done to get out of a chore?
24. What food should you never eat at an important lunch or first date?
25. Do you pour the milk in the bowl first, or the cereal first and why?

In setting up the topic, it’s always good to share your perspective first from your own experience. Also, if you have two or more people on the show, if there are opposing opinions, that really generates calls!
