As Johnny (my wonderful husband) and I prepare to step away from full-time radio after many, many years, I thought I would share my heart with those who will continue to serve. When I started at the age of 27, I had no way of knowing what God had planned and how He would choose to use this little girl from East Fort Worth. But He did and that was all that mattered.
There are four things that I want to introduce to encourage you to carry this load:
1. Just go tell them about Him
Jesus had very specific instructions to Mary Magdalene when He spoke at the empty tomb. He told her to “go and tell her brothers.” That is our responsibility to follow His words and to keep telling them about Him. It really is that simple.
2. Stop judging one another
My grandmother had a saying, “What Sally says about Suzie says more about Sally than Suzie.” To attack another person is the opposite of what we are called to do. And yet, we see the cheerleaders lining up to support what is being said. Stop that!
3. You’re perfect just the way you are but…
One of my favorite quotes from Max Lucado is “God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way. He wants you to be just like Jesus.” Stop beating yourself up and trust that He will help you love and serve the way He wants. You are His child and were made in His image so most of what you think is wrong with you, you are wrong about .
4. Radio is not dead
One of the toughest parts of leaving radio for me was that I thought that the connections that I made as “Stacey Stone” would disappear. A few weeks ago, I had that thought again and a still small voice rebuked me saying “as long as there is someone who remembers what you did for them, ‘Stacey Stone’ will always exist.” The relationships that we in local radio have with our listeners are priceless and completely impossible to replicate on any platform. Don’t ever let anyone take that from you – evolve, retain and keep telling them about Jesus.
