Stacey Stone “What We Can Control”
“Attitude: /ˈadəˌt(y)o͞od/ a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically one that is reflected in a person’s behavior.” When you think about upcoming fundraisers or events that will require a great deal of effort and time, how does your attitude reflect what you can control? Each of us, as broadcasters, have certain things that we can control going into our workdays that take extra oomph and recognizing those items will help you next time you must push through and shine.
Our station, WGTS 91.9 Washington, DC, conducts “We Fundraise Well” classes before each of our fundraisers. Each of these gatherings leads to interesting conversations about how we can increase our skills as well as change our thinking about different areas of fundraising. At our last class prior to our fundraiser, the question that we sought answers to was “What can I control about this upcoming fundraiser?” The list below is not complete but was what we came up with in our short time together.
- Attitude
- Preparation (trust your training)
- Peace over imperfection
- Grace you give yourself and other
- Reactions (how we treat others)
- Comparing ourselves to others
- How you take care of yourself (amount of sleep)
- Level of worry/anxiety
- Amount of social media we partake in
- Which commitments we keep or cancel
- Our words
- Where we fix our eyes
William James once said, “It is our attitude at the beginning of a difficult undertaking which, more than anything else, will determine its successful outcome.” You get to decide today what your attitude and preparation looks like, how you train for an upcoming sprint of a day and what you can control. If you have any questions about our preparation for fundraisers or events, you are always welcome to call any of us. We know that you can be successful and can’t wait to see what you accomplish for Christ.
Sincerely,
The Staff of WGTS 91.9
