NRB Chairman Steps Down

In an unexpected announcement, NRB Board Chairman Janet Parshall (at left) has resigned effective immediately. Janet served NRB with great wisdom and distinction during a very challenging time for NRB. Craig Parshall, who has served as NRB’s General Counsel, also announced his resignation.

Salem Radio Network V.P./News & Talk Programming Tom Tradup told HisAir, “It is the passing of the torch at NRB, with veteran Christian broadcaster—and former Salem Radio Network talk host—Janet Parshall stepping down as Board Chairman. Janet’s talent—which always made SRN’s call-in lines ring so hard they were practically levitating—will be missed as the NRB moves into the future of Christian broadcasting.”

In an email to the NRB Board of Directors Janet wrote: “… as the result of much time spent in prayerful consideration of what the Lord has called us to do, Craig and I have decided it is now time for both of us to step away from NRB . . . . Both of us pray that the God of all creation, whose message we love to proclaim, will provide all of us with the wisdom, courage, discernment, compassion and strength for the coming days to finish our race strong.”

Both Janet and Craig have a long association with NRB. Janet served the NRB for nearly 20 years as Board Member, Executive Committee member, and most recently as Chairman. Craig served two terms as NRB’s General Counsel, where he effectively championed NRB’s public policy interests in Washington, D.C.

Former NRB President Dr. Frank Wright noted: “Few people beyond NRB’s Board of Directors fully comprehend the depth and effectiveness of Janet and Craig’s years of service to NRB. Their faithful and long-standing commitment has blessed the entire community of Christian communicators.”

Among the many positive comments from NRB Board members:

“We are grateful for your willingness to do such heavy lifting at such a momentous time in the association’s long history. Thank you for leading well, communicating clearly, and staying faithful to the NRB’s charge and constitution.” (John Fuller, Focus on the Family)

“I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done! Christian broadcasting has become more essential than ever—especially with the world at a standstill and people asking existential questions. God has used you both to bring this great media support mechanism, NRB, back to health, to bless and guide people like me in Christian media.” (Stan Jeter, GNA News)

Pursuant to NRB’s Bylaws, First Vice Chairman Dr. Ron Harris has assumed the role of Acting Chairman. Commenting on the transition Dr. Harris said:

“It has been my privilege to work alongside Janet Parshall at NRB on the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, serving together on multiple occasions. Janet has been a bright, shining light for the Gospel and a leader in working towards unfettered proclamation of the Word of the Lord through all forms of media. She will be missed for her leadership, her commitment to Christ, and her friendship.”

“National Religious Broadcasters looks forward to a dynamic year of helping our members to be what NRB has been for over 75 years—Christian Communicators Impacting the World with the life-changing Gospel of Jesus Christ. Led by CEO Troy Miller and the Executive Committee, the coming year will be highlighted by the 2021 NRB Convention at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas, March 15-18, 2021.”

And Dr. Harris concludes, “NRB is uniquely positioned to help Christian communicators effectively deliver the message of God’s hope to our world. We are grateful for Janet and Craig’s faithful service to NRB over the years and pray for God’s best for them in where the Lord is calling them to serve next.”
