McDermott Celebrates 25 Year Milestone
KSBJ/Houston President and General Manager Tim McDermott (left) celebrates 25 years of service this month. McDermott has served in both roles at KSBJ since 1992, making him the longest running General Manager at any major Houston radio station. When McDermott started, the station had only 11 employees and was reaching around 45,000 listeners a month. In 2016 the station has close to 100 employees and is drawing over 800,000 listeners a week.
“I’ve never considered this a job,” said McDermott. “It’s a passion and a calling. Watching the impact the station has had on the city has been amazing. When it comes to a vision for what KSBJ has been to Houston, you think you’ve hit every level, and there is always more ways that God can touch lives, the vision is always being rewarded. I’m humbled and I’m honored to be here at KSBJ.”
Under McDermott’s leadership, KSBJ has received various industry recognition including National Religious Broadcaster’s Radio Station of the Year, Christian Music Broadcaster’s Station of the Year and Best Christian Workplace. With a passion to see Christian music radio thrive, McDermott has mentored radio stations in the U.S. and around the world. Active in the Christian radio industry, he has served numerous leadership and board positions including NRB and CMB, where he was the founding chair. He has spoken at conferences nationally as well as internationally.
“Tim is a faithful and prayerful leader who is led by the Holy Spirit,” said Glenn Gilchrist, KSBJ’s Board Chair. “He is a blessing to his staff and the Board. During his tenure KSBJ listenership has risen – leaps and bounds. The mentoring program has advised and counseled sister stations all over the world. And recently a new station, NGEN, has been successfully launched. KSBJ’s prayer stations can be seen at most events in Houston. I want to personally thank Tim for the leadership, inspiration and vision he has given KSBJ over the last 25 years.”
