Lee Ann Jackson “National Radio Day”
On August 20th we celebrated National Radio Day, and on that date I marked 35 years since starting my career in radio.
Thirty-five years is a long time. A lot has changed, but some things about RADIO haven’t changed much at all:
R — Relationships
Radio has always been about people. The people behind the microphone, the people behind the scenes and the people listening.
A — Access
Radio has a way of going places. Literally. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of visiting stations in the U.S., Africa, Albania, Cairo and Iceland. Different countries, cultures and challenges, but the same medium connecting people.
D — Difference
Radio has, does and continues to make a difference – sometimes it’s about making a difference in someone’s day . . . sometimes, it’s about making a difference in someone’s life.
I — Immediacy
There’s still something pretty special about a voice, a song, a story or a message reaching someone right when they need it.
O — Opportunity
Radio has given me opportunities I never could have imagined 35 years ago. It’s taken me around the world, introduced me to amazing people and privileged me to serve those who use media for something that matters.
Lots of reasons to celebrate National Radio Day – from the enduring power of radio to connect people, tell stories, make a difference . . . and, plenty of reasons to be excited about where radio goes from here!
