Today KSBJ/Houston celebrates its 42nd anniversary, the station first went on the air July 8, 1982. The late Buddy Holiday was at the helm playing Dallas Holm “Rise Again” as the first song.

Joe Paulo, president and CEO of Hope Media Group told Community Impact, “Back then, there was no Spotify or Pandora—music was not as easy to come by as it is today,” “So the dream and the vision was, ‘Can we just have an FM radio station that can provide great, high-quality Christian music to people 24 hours a day?’ And that was really the genesis of KSBJ back in 1982.”

In late 2023, Hope Media Group broke ground on its new global headquarters, which is set to anchor Valley Ranch’s entertainment district upon opening in April 2025. The New Caney facility will house roughly half of Hope Media Group’s approximately 200 employees, Paulo said.

The number of licensed AM stations continues to decline, with a loss of fourteen this quarter, following a drop of seventeen in the first quarter. Commercial FM stations also saw a decrease, losing 43 licenses this quarter. However, this decline was offset by an increase in non-commercial FM stations, which rose by 36. The changes reflect a combination of license cancellations, new sign-ons, and the reallocation of commercial licenses to non-commercial status.
