FROM THE NOW NEWSLETTER… Salem paid $8 million for Omaha’s KGBI/100.7 in 2005, and now we know its 2018 sale price – $3.15 million. Salem installed its contemporary Christian “Fish” format on KGBI and did some technical work, and no doubt pulled some profit from it. But this week’s sale (Wednesday’s NOW) is another reminder of how different pre-Great Recession prices are from today. Salem’s selling “Fish 100.7” to a not-for-profit Christian broadcaster which will likely air its own version of CCM (contemporary Christian). But it won’t be a “Fish,” since Salem’s not selling that intellectual property along with the big Class C0 (C-zero) signal. Buyer is Minnesota-based University of Northwestern-St. Paul, which makes KGBI its 21st station. Salem still has two AM/translator combos in Omaha, Christian teaching “660/106.5 The Word” KCRO and conservative talk “FM 94.5/AM 1420 The Answer” KOTK.
