EMF Adds Powerhouse Houston Signal
Educational Media Foundation (EMF) has submitted a deal worth $3.1 million to purchase KTHT/Houston (97.1) from Urban One. EMF already owns KHJK/Laporte, TX (Air1 103.7) 99kw at 1990 ft covering Houston-Beaumont since 2012. KTHT is a classic country station “Country Legends 97.1: and is expected to be K-LOVE.
On July 17th the FCC approved Urban One’s acquisition of four FM radio stations in Houston from Cox Media Group. At that time, it granted the buyer a two-year window to sell two of those stations in compliance with local ownership regulations.
Urban One’s subsidiary, Radio One, entered into an agreement to acquire Cox Media Group’s entire Houston radio cluster for $27.5 million in April.
Urban One had two years to divest KTHT, the swift deal with EMF means the sale proceeds will directly go to Urban One, rather than to the Sugarland Trust or Cox. Urban One had previously expressed that it was actively discussing the sale of KTHT.
Additionally, in April, Urban One had signed a deal to sell Gospel KROI to Spanish Broadcasting System for $7.5 million.
