Celebrating 40 Years! – WBGL
WBGL/Champaign (91.7) is 40 years old today. The station is celebrating on the air with lots of stories from listeners and staff who were with WBGL in the past.
WBGL GM Jeff Scott told HisAir, “We are actually kicking of an entire year of celebration that starts today and goes through next October 30th.”
WBGL is owned by the University of Northwestern – St. Paul, purchased from New Life Media, in an Aug 2019 deal that included 13 full power stations and 7 translators.
40 years ago, WBGL was the dream of the the stations original Director Bill Snider, who with others teamed up to start the station in 1982. Today, Bill gets great joy in seeing WBGL’s success and tremendous growth, Watch video HERE.
Today WBGL is relayed by 9 full-power FM stations and three low-power FM translators. Their combined footprint provides at least secondary coverage from the outer southern suburbs of Chicago to the Illinois side of the St. Louis area to southeastern Missouri.
Scott ads, “We had a caller that called in this morning reminding us that the 40th year is the Go Forth year. God released Moses to Go Forth. That’s our prayer for WBGL.”
