Salem Media Reacts To Hurricane Harvey

As category 4 Hurricane Harvey roared onto the Texas Gulf coastline Friday night—smashing into Port Aransas and Corpus Christi with 130 mph winds and flooding rains—the Salem Media Group mobilized its platforms nationwide to rush life-saving aid to children and families impacted by the strongest hurricane to hit Texas in 50 years.

Salem’s twin 24/7 national news networksSRN News and TOWNHALL News—Friday evening began round-the-clock appeals for donations for non-profit relief organization SAVE THE CHILDREN, already on the ground in Texas and Louisiana.

In addition, at the direction of Salem’s radio division president David Santrella, Salem’s o/n/o radio stations immediately began airing messages urging listeners to also join the relief effort; all formats participated including Contemporary Christian Music, NewsTalk, Christian Teaching/Talk, Business Talk, Spanish Christian and Health Talk.

SRN Vice President/News & Talk Programming Tom Tradup stated: “With SRN based in Dallas—and Salem radio colleagues operating in Houston and San Antonio—this critical national news story took on an even more compelling, personal nature because Hurricane Harvey was devastating our friends, colleagues, and families throughout the region.”

Salem also deployed veteran talk host Sam Malone in Houston and SRN News southwest correspondent Val DeOre in Corpus Christi to offer analysis and perspective on the impact of Harvey’s high winds and 25-30 inches of rain…expected to cause massive, life-threatening flooding well into early September
