Chart Explain 7/25/2022
This may be the most important week of the year musically, as this is the first Moneyball Chart since sometime in 2021 that doesn’t lead with passion. And all I mean by this is that the top 7 songs this week have all lost their momentum according to the airplay charts. Katy Nichole tumbles from 1 to 6, replaced by Jireh, which while it tops this chart only hit 5 on the airplay charts as the peak.
It’s an important week also, because we haven’t had a complete shuffling of the deck in our format in quite some time, but with many songs failing to hit Top 5, we are admittedly in a lackluster moment musically.
TobyMac and Jeremy Camp are this week’s surging songs with the most momentum and traction joined by Blanca and Dante Bowe, but even these songs haven’t shown the throttle to generate speed to make it to the top spots, but we shall see.
Several songs move up this week, based on others moving down, so momentum could be deceptive if you’re not watching based on the proper parameters.
The Moneyball Chart Methodology
Instead of one chart that focuses specifically on airplay, the Moneyball Chart combines airplay with sales, streaming and research for the purpose of finding the Momentum in Music, which is most times the differentiator on songs that stall and the ones that continue to chug along.
The Moneyball Chart is created based on a points system, where each column of information can add a maximum of up to 10 points for that column, with the points from each column adding to the overall totals.
The Moneyball Chart is an indicator of songs that are working; songs that are bearing fruit and therefore the Moneyball Chart, may have drastic differences from the charts you have become accustom to, revealing some artists and titles in a higher position much earlier than they show up on the airplay charts, and also, often songs that have moved to recurrent on most of our playlists continue to show fruit indicating that we may have retired those titles too early.
The Moneyball system works Nationally, or locally, so if you are interested in seeing what this information looks like specific to your station, specific to your market and your competitive situation, let us create a custom sample for your station specifically.
