MCB Staff Shave Heads For Morning Hosts Wife

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the issue has become very personal for the staff at Minnesota Christian Broadcasters stations KTIG/Pequot Lakes (The Word) and WZFJ/Pequot Lakes (The Pulse).

Val Kvamme, wife of The Word morning show host Phil Kvamme, was diagnosed with breast cancer this summer and is currently undergoing treatment. In a show of support, and to bring awareness to the issue, each of the male staff members had their head shaved. This includes General Manager Ric McClary, Kvamme, and the rest of the station on-air staff — Randy Kennedy, Aaron Pearson, Dave Wonders, and Joe Ledford. When they learned about Val Kvamme’s diagnosis, what to do next wasn’t a real head-scratcher for the staff members.

“I’ve been wanting to shave my head for a long time to see how I’d look, so this gave me the perfect opportunity,” Kennedy said.

“I feel grateful that these guys would do this during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and because Val’s going through the chemo, herself, and will look like we will,” said Phil Kvamme, The Word program director.
