Keep Going

It was opening weekend. Star Wars was in 32 theaters. Studio executives kept a constant tab on how the movie was doing. Lines formed around the theaters. Each showing was sold out, so people camped out to see the film–not just once, but over and over again.

Lucas’ phone rang. The head studio executive told him the amazing news day after day. How did Lucas respond?

“It doesn’t mean anything…I expect it all to fall apart next week.”

Remember, even those we count as the greatest have tremendous doubts. But doubt didn’t stop them. They kept moving forward. Don’t let it stop you. Your team is watching you.

What does it say to them if the leader gives up? The team takes their cues from you! Keep going!

One more thing: Lucas said he expected it all to fall apart. It never did. Forty years and nine movies later, people are anxiously waiting for the next episode.
