Hope Media Group Software Engineer

Job Summary:

Hope Media Group the home of KSBJ, WayFM, Vida Unida and NGEN radio. This position resides in either Houston, TX or Nashville, TN. The Software Engineer serves as a member of the Innovation Department and reports directly to the Chief of Innovation. This position plays a key role in contributing to the development and growth of our software product. The Software Engineer must have strong expertise in modern web and mobile application development, including Postgres, AWS Infrastructure, Next.js, and other relevant technologies, as well as a deep commitment to creating high-quality, spiritually enriching products that inspire and engage our user base to love Jesus, serve others and share Hope.

Essential Functions:

Software Development and Implementation

  • Collaborate with the Product Manager, UI/UX Designer, and other stakeholders to understand product requirements and user needs
  • Develop, implement, and maintain high-quality, scalable, and efficient code for the God Listens Prayer App using technologies such as Postgres, AWS Infrastructure, Next.js, and other relevant tools
  • Ensure seamless integration of front-end and back-end components, and adhere to best practices in software development

Technical Problem Solving and Optimization

  • Identify and resolve technical issues, bugs, and performance bottlenecks within the application
  • Optimize the application for maximum speed, scalability, and reliability, ensuring a seamless user experience across devices and platforms

Testing and Quality Assurance

  • Develop and implement thorough testing procedures to ensure the stability, security, and performance of our product
  • Collaborate with the Product Manager and UI/UX Designer to conduct user testing and gather feedback, and incorporate necessary changes into the application

Continuous Improvement and Learning

  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in software development, and proactively identify opportunities for improvement and growth within the God Listens Prayer App
  • Share knowledge and expertise with team members, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the Innovation Business Unit

Collaboration and Communication

  • Work closely with the Product Manager, UI/UX Designer, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on product goals, progress, and outcomes
  • Effectively communicate technical concepts, challenges, and solutions to diverse audiences

Demonstrated Faith

  • Pray for coworkers in team meetings or with donors/listeners as needed
  • Participate On-Air fundraising
  • Participate in ministry wide Christian bible studies
  • Attend weekly Hope Huddle and team meetings for prayer and devotions
  • Maintains a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Is a consistent witness for Jesus Christ. Maintains a courteous, Christ-like attitude in dealing with people within and outside of the organization

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.


  • 3+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on web and mobile applications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong expertise in Postgres, AWS Infrastructure, Next.js, and other relevant technologies
  • Proficiency in modern web development frameworks, languages, and tools, such as React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and Node.js
  • Demonstrated experience building, deploying, and maintaining high-quality, scalable, and secure applications
  • Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and optimization skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams
  • Passion for creating meaningful, spiritually enriching products that make a positive impact on users’ lives
