When you are a child living in poverty in the Dominican Republic and your only hope for “making it” is sexual exploitation, that’s where The Crossover Cups Mission steps in. Recently, CUPS partnered with WAY Radio 90.7FM in Brunswick, GA and WAY Radio 104.9FM, 103.3FM & AM550 in Jacksonville, FL to raise awareness and support for the village of Alto de la Juagua in the Dominican. The goal? To have 200 children sponsored so that CUPS could build a community center where the village’s children could hang out, receive nourishment, hear about Jesus & be discipled. Thanks to the listeners of WAY Radio & the Lord’s prompting and provision, all 200 children were sponsored between two 1-day on-air campaigns last week!
Bart Wagner, Station Manager of WAYR Brunswick said, “Since this was our first time doing the CUPS campaign, I wasn’t sure how listeners would respond. We were overwhelmed with the outpouring of support!”. Jack Eason of CUPS estimates construction on the new WAY Radio Community Center will begin later this week. A banner that includes all of the names of the listeners who are supporting the mission is planned to be hung once the center is completed. The next step is an ongoing partnership between CUPS & WAY Radio listeners to continue ministering to this village by funding the job skills program & other much needed resources for these precious children. Listeners and staff are already inquiring and planning to make an in-person visit to “their” center in the next year.
