Religious broadcasters are celebrating after a federal appeals court blocked the FCC from enforcing its plan to collect employee data from all radio and TV stations. On May 13, the Fifth Circuit Court ruled that the FCC lacks the legal authority to mandate submission of Form 395-Bs.

Mike Farris, General Counsel at the National Religious Broadcasters, says, “The prior administration had elevated woke ideology over time-honored principles of freedom of speech and association,” Farris says. “The desire to use the power of government to gather information for no other legitimate governmental purpose but to harm the political opponents of regulated entities is utterly un-American. That threat is now behind us thanks to this decision from the Fifth Circuit.”

It is unlikely the FCC will appeal the decision.

Research and consulting firm Finney Media has completed its 2025 Finney Media Why Listen® Survey. This year’s survey marks the fifth nationwide survey conducted by the research firm since 2016.  “What an absolute honor to have the opportunity to get inside the minds of Christian listeners”, said Chuck Finney, Finney Media president. “This year, listeners tell us they simply want to find peace on their dial. It’s important for us, as Christian media professionals, to audit our programming regularly to ensure we are truly delivering what our listeners want to hear.”
