After 10 years on the air WLJW/Traverse City (Fuel FM) signed off this morning. The station had broadcast on 95.9 and 105.5.

In December the deal for owner Good News Media closed and Northern Christian Radio (NCR) acquired its properties including a total of 8 stations and 2 translators including (95.9/105.5) WLJW/Traverse City, MI (Fuel FM), (1370/1400).WLJW/WLJN/Traverse City, MI (The Source) and WLJN/Traverse City, (89.9) and WLJD/Charlevoix (107.9). Also included is Traverse City translator W281CG at 104.1 FM, and Cadillac, MI translator W264DQ at 100.7 FM.

It was announced today that 105.5 will become The Promise FM, simulcasting the signal from WPHN/Gaylord and 95.5 will become The Source (Christian Talk).

Also, WPHN morning co host Sarah Schieber announced she will mornings on WLJN/Traverse City starting March 1st.

No other changes have been announced.

UPDATE: On Wednesday, February 28th, during a ferocious winter storm, fire erupted at the tower site for WPHN/Gaylord, the 100,000 watt flagship station for The Promise FM. That fire destroyed the facility in its entirety, taking not only The Promise FM, but all of the CMU radio and television stations, along with other entities utilizing that tower site, off the air.

Northern Christian Radio President/GM Pat Scott told HisAir,Praise be to God that the site was unmanned, an no one was injured in this catastrophic fire, but the damage is significant, and at present time it is unclear how long WPHN will be off the air. This, of course, creates an unmistakable gap in the coverage area for Life-Changing Radio, and affects many who depend on the ministry of The Promise FM to be there every day and night. During this outage for our broadcast signal at 90.5FM, listeners can still find The Promise FM online and through our app, found at www.thepromisefm.com.”

“The leadership and engineering for Northern Christian Radio are currently working on next steps, to maintain the remaining stations of Northern Christian Radio with all of the ministry formats, so that we may continue to provide the very best in Christian radio ministry throughout Northern Lower Michigan, the Eastern Upper Peninsula, and into Ontario, Canada.”

KKEQ/Grand Forks (Your QFM) PD Josh Jones checks in with HisAir as the station is celebrating it’s 30th anniversary this summer.

Josh says, “We locked in TobyMac to come to Bemidji MN on August 4th! Plans are in the works for a full day of fun. Pretty exciting for our little station!”
