Hurricane Harvey continued to dump record levels of rain on Houston and other parts of Ultimately, the rain could affect more than 7 million people in the southeast part of the state. The National Weather Service described the flooding as “epic and catastrophic” and “beyond anything experienced.” This would be a good time to put on a heavy push with your listeners to help them help others. Here are several organizations coming to the aid of Texans where your listeners can help:
The American Red Cross is encouraging people to donate money on its website or to text 90999 to donate $10. Other organizations include the Salvation Army, Samaritan’s Purse and Heart to Heart International. The crowdfunding website Global Giving is trying to raise $2 million to provide “food, water, and medicine in addition to longer-term recovery assistance” to Harvey’s victims.
The crowdfunding service GoFundMe also has highlighted stories of people who are suffering as a result of Harvey.
Airbnb has waived fees for people affected by Harvey who check in through Friday. It’s also connecting people who need a place to stay with people who are offering space free.
The South Texas Blood & Tissue Center and Texas-based Carter BloodCare (1-877-385-724) are accepting donations. Several organizations are offering aid to displaced pets, including Dallas Animal Services and the SPCA of Texas.
And the Texas Diaper Bank is assisting people with small children.
