Armstrong Retiring… Again
WRVL/Lynchburg (The Journey) GM Barry Armstrong (at left) is retiring. The Journey PD Mike Weston will become GM. Mike has been PD of The Journey since April 2015. Mike has been in radio for 30 years, prior to joining The Journey he was with WMHK/Columbia for 14 years when it was sold to KLOVE.
This is Armstrong’s second retirement from Christian radio. After more than 10 years at WRXT/Roanoke (PAR) he retired from Spirit FM and PAR in July of 2013. In August of 2014 he was hired by Liberty University to reformat and rebrand Liberty’s Victory Radio Network. He has served as GM and (former morning show host) of the Journey Radio Network, with 7 full power and 18 translators in Virginia and North Carolina.
Armstrong managed his first CCM radio station, WQFL/Rockford IL, from 1985-1990 before a short stint in Christian TV. On his departure from Christian Radio Armstrong says, “About 2 1/2 years ago, I walked in this door to watch as God assembled an awesome team. We were tasked with reformatting and rebranding an already historic radio station. What an incredible ride this has been! I must say thanks to my friends in Christian radio, so many of whom have been a source of ideas, inspiration and encouragement.”
His last day will be December 30th.
