Every story has a hero.
On Giving Tuesday, WCIC/Peoria wanted to honor a Hero who exemplifies what giving is all about. Thirteen years ago, Andrew started volunteering at the radio station. As a high school student, Andrew walked to the station every morning to help out any way he could – even when there was more than a foot of snow on the ground!
Over those thirteen years, WCIC watched Andrew grow from a high school kid into an independent young man who lives out his faith every day, works a full-time job, and is fully engaged in his local church ministry. Andrew never let his disability, a mild form of autism, define him. This fall, Andrew announced that God was leading him to share his serving heart with other local ministries, bringing this thirteen-year season at WCIC to a close. So grateful for the impact Andrew has had, the WCIC team wanted to find a unique way to honor him. Andrew never asks for anything, but we knew he needed a car to make transportation between work, home, and church more convenient. That need seemed to be an opportunity to serve Andrew and let him know how much he means to WCIC.
Of course, a car is not a small thing, so the staff began to pray. They reached out to people in the community who might be able to bless Andrew in this way. Bob Lindsay Honda of Peoria and Bob Lindsay Acura of Peoria came together and gave something beyond their dreams – a 2008 Honda Civic in mint condition with only one previous owner!
Winston Churchill said, “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.” Through his giving spirit, Andrew has been helping spread the message of HOPE in Jesus for 13 years. Thank you, Andrew!
In the video Andrew is interviewed on the air by WCIC morning show hosts Jeremy and Jill Tracey….
