WGTS Ice Cream Tour
WGTS/Wash DC is wrapping up a hot summer by serving cool treats. The station is embarking on the WGTS Ice Cream Tour for the sixth year, taking ice cream to cities in the D.C. suburbs. Afternoon hosts Johnny and Stacey Stone anchor the events by broadcasting their show on location. Listeners come out for an interactive afternoon of games, prizes, and, of course, ice cream. The station is also collecting food for their ongoing initiative, “Operation Fill the Pantry,” which seeks to make sure no one in the D.C. area is going hungry. The Salvation Army takes the food and redistributes it to those who need it most.
“After having to take last year off, we’re excited to go out and play with our listeners again,” says WGTS morning host and promotions director Jerry Woods. “We have people getting emotional and thanking us just for coming to them in person after a year without live events.” The station has served ice cream to over 1,400 people in the two weeks since the tour launch.
