WAFJ Road Trip To Charlotte
The WAFJ/Augusta promotions team took a busload of 55 listeners on a road trip to Charlotte, N.C., to visit the Billy Graham Library and Elevation Church.
The promotion was so popular that it sold out in just two weeks. The adventure began at 5:30 a.m. Feb. 1 in a dark parking lot as our listeners checked in (registration was illuminated by the headlights of the 88.3 WAFJ truck) and by 6:30 we were on the road for our two-plus hour journey. Sleep and many rounds of bingo highlighted the morning cruise on the motor coach.
Once at the Billy Graham Library, listeners were given free rein and food vouchers to enjoy the journey through the life of Dr. Graham. The Library presented a fascinating display of his life from humble farm boy to an international ambassador of God’s love. During the journey of faith, our listeners were encouraged to read, reflect, study and learn about Dr. Graham and his service to Jesus Christ. The team at the Library was superb! They were willing to help anyone who walked through the doors and available to pray with listeners anytime throughout the day.
Also located on the grounds was the Graham family home, relocated several miles from its original location, the gravesites of Billy and Ruth Graham, and a memorial garden to Clive Barrows, George Beverly Shea and other members of the Billy Graham Crusade team.
After six hours there, it was back on the bus for the short trip to Elevation Church, where everyone was made to feel like a VIP! The listener experience was nothing short of amazing as we were doted on by many members of the church’s volunteer staff. The music from Elevation Worship and the message from Pastor Steven Furtick were both uplifting. Afterward, members of Elevation Worship came by to say hello to our listeners and pose with us for group picture.
The return trip to South Carolina included a box dinner from Chick-fil-A, more bingo and more sleep before arriving back where we started at 10:30 p.m.
It was a very long day but all on board the bus were ecstatic about the trip. It was a listener engagement that they were hungry for and they quickly let us know of their desire for more opportunities to travel with their favorite radio station in the market.
