PAR Names JOY FM Listener Engagement Coordinator

Positive Alternative Radio’s (PAR) Southern Gospel network Joy FM, welcomes Josh Armstrong to oversee marketing efforts and social media platforms as the Listener Engagement Coordinator. 

“Josh brings an immense degree of artistic talent and heart to our station,” said John Long, General Manager of Joy FM. “All successful brands must embrace and adapt to the ever-changing technological landscape to remain relevant in today’s competitive market. Josh undoubtedly fits and appreciates our culture, but equally possesses the vital skills necessary to engage with our listeners and communities at the highest level.”

Armstrong is a 2010 graduate of Gardner-Webb University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Services. In 2006, he completed an associate degree from Surry Community College. He is returning to radio, having served as an announcer for WPAQ/Mount Airy, North Carolina (106.7) and WYSD/Dobson, NC (105.1). Armstrong’s work experience includes marketing for local businesses and stints as a journalist for the Winston-Salem Journal and Mount Airy News. 

“We welcome Josh to our family,” said Brian Sanders, Executive Vice President of PAR. “Listener engagement on the air, in the community, and online is a top priority, and we look forward to his experience and talent helping us reach our goals.”

Armstrong said he is looking forward to meeting listeners and engaging with the communities the station serves.

 “Joy FM has been an important part of my life, and I am thankful for the opportunity to help more people find out about its ministry,” he said. 

While Southern Gospel as a radio format may be shrinking across the United States, PAR has seen phenomenal growth for Joy FM, which broadcasts from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and reaches several major metropolitan areas, including Virginia Beach, Virginia, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Johnson City-Bristol, Tennessee. The network is also heard in parts of Maryland and Delaware. In addition to its vast over-the-air audience, Joy’s Facebook page has more than 625,000 followers.
