Family Life Radio (FLR) recently celebrated 40 years of radio ministry at KFLQ/Albuquerque (91.5). FLR staff, volunteers and donors gathered to commemorate the anniversary. The event also featured artist Tasha Layton who performed listener favorites like Look What You’ve Done and Into the Sea (It’s Gonna Be Ok). FLR expanded to New Mexico in 1983, starting up a brand-new station, KFLQ. This was their sixth station, adding to the two in Arizona and three in Michigan.
Peter Brooks, who worked for FLR for 44 years and retired in 2021, was KFLQ’s first general manager. He said the station experienced a flood of calls within the first few hours of broadcasting with listeners sharing their excitement. “The feeling in the studio was absolute joy and thankfulness for what God had done and what we believed He would do in the years ahead through KLFQ,” said Brooks.
“What began 40 years ago in Albuquerque laid the foundation for Family Life Radio to be able to stand strong and continue spreading the message of hope in Christ,” said Evan Carlson, President and Chief Executive Officer of FLR.
FLR was founded 57 years ago in Michigan by Warren Bolthouse, who broadcasted 12 hours a day from his basement studio. Today, the network has 36 signals in 11 states, reaching over 17 million people.
WDJC/Birmingham is introducing a new show launching Friday night September 1st. Nightly from 7p-midnight, local legend Brother John will host “Timeless Tunes” a show that will highlight music from the 70s to today. Songs birthed from the Jesus Revolution in the 70s will be featured in the 7 oclock hour, then 80s in the 8, and so on.
WDJC PD Justin Flores tells HisAir, “We will have vignettes of pastors and speakers of the past bringing Timeless Truths and more. Brother John has been a staple in the Birmingham area for decades and has recently been the host of the overnight show on WDJC and I am excited to see him accept a role on a show that will allow him to bring those classic worshipful songs of the last 50 years back to life on the air. We don’t believe any other radio station in the CCM world is doing this. Do you remember the first time you heard Lovesong? or Mustard Seed Faith? What about Petra? DC Talk? Well, they will once again grace the WDJC airwaves.”
NQC 2023 will be held at the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge, TN, from September 24- September 30, 2023. In Touch Ministries, the ministry founded by Dr. Charles Stanley, has been announced as the title sponsor for 2023.
“In Touch Ministries is excited to be a part of the 2023 National Quartet Convention,” said Seth Grey, Chief Communications Officer of In Touch Ministries. “Southern Gospel music has been vital to the encouragement and discipleship of Christians worldwide. As an organization that features many music artists on the In Touch television program, we look forward to a week of inspiring music and meeting In Touch friends from around the country.”
