The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association is recognizing WORQ/Green Bay (Q90FM) for assisting law enforcement in making a good influence in the community.
During the holiday season, the station distributed $165,000 in gift cards to 50 Wisconsin law enforcement departments. Officers also loaded 1,000 backpacks with hats, socks, gloves, toiletries, snacks, and free restaurant coupons while at the event. For a total of more than $200,000 in donations, each backpack and its contents were worth around $40 each. The gift cards will be used by officers to assist persons in need who they encounter while on patrol. They can also utilize the backpacks to assist any homeless neighbors they come across with immediate needs.
The initiative was created to counteract the unfavorable media coverage of law enforcement officers and to put a light on them.
