Grand Rapids based Lanser Broadcasting has chosen Abbi Hess as their new General Manager. She will direct Lanser stations WJQK/Grand Rapids (Joy 99).and WPNW-AM (1260), and JoyWorship carried on FM translators W243BD 96.5 and W255DI 98.9.
Hess succeeds her grandfather Lanser Broadcasting founder Les Lanser, who passed away July 30, 2026. Lanser spent 58 years with the stations and 43 years as owner. In January 1987, he led the company’s move to CCM.
Abbi Hess joined Lanser Broadcasting in 2016 and has held a variety of roles within the organization and represents the third generation of the Lanser family involved in operating the stations.
Brad Lanser will continue in a leadership and ownership role, providing overall vision and guidance for the company.
“I am the third generation of our family to be involved in running these stations, and I am honored to continue carrying on the mission and vision,” Hess said. “It is a blessing to follow in the legacy that has been built here. Our commitment has not changed: bringing encouragement and the love of Jesus to this community, every day, on every signal we operate.”
As General Manager, Hess will oversee the day-to-day operations and leadership of Lanser Broadcasting as Joy99 and JoyWorship continue the mission established by the Lanser family.

The KCMS Afternoon Drive Voice Talent is responsible for improving and maintaining ratings in the Seattle market, with an ability to communicate with the audience in the targeted demographic. The Gospel Music Association (GMA) has announced nominees for the 57th Annual GMA Dove Awards.
The 57th Annual GMA Dove Awards will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The main show begins at 6:30 p.m. CT.
The television broadcast is scheduled for Friday, October 9, according to GMA information.

Of Interest: Radio historian and videographer Art Vuolo is encouraging stations nationwide to air his documentary commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The approximately 20-minute presentation is composed entirely of actual radio broadcasts recorded as the attacks unfolded, with no recreations. Originally produced for a radio conference and later expanded for the 20th anniversary, the documentary captures how radio covered one of the most consequential mornings in American history.
Vuolo is asking stations to air the program without commercial interruption, noting that its length allows it to fit within a 30-minute programming block with additional time for news and spots. The presentation can be aired as audio-only or used with video.
Vuolo says the documentary provides a unique record of radio’s role on 9/11, when millions of Americans first learned of the attacks while listening during morning drive.

WCIE/Tampa (The JOY FM) repeated its #1 ranking AQH P6+ in the Aug Nielsen PPM released today. WCIE jumped 6.6-7.8 to grab the top spot.
The JOY FM GM Carmen Brown told HisAir, “Our being on top in the Tampa Bay market is a good sign for Christian radio nationwide.
