Once again, the religion category, consisting of teaching and variety-formatted stations, maintains its position as the second most prominent category in Inside Radio’s monthly Format Counts monitor. With a total of 2,021 stations, it closely trails behind the leading news/talk category, which boasts 2,017 stations. CCM ranked 4th with 1,358.

Fourth-ranked Contemporary Christian leads the pack with a net 33 stations added since last June, and 15 this year so far. Religion gains 24 and 16, year-over-year and since January.


Gospel Radio Favorites has added 9 new stations bringing the total to almost 1800 stations around the world.

Lake Area Educational Broadcasting Foundation has closed on the $1.25 million agreement with the Northwestern Media for the purchase of 15 full-power FM stations, eight FM translator signals, and six construction permits. The majority of the signals are “Spirit-FM,” while seven signals air “Elevate-FM,” all located in Missouri.

The full-power FM stations included in the transaction are as follows: KCKE/Chillicothe (90.3), KCKF/Cuba (91.9), KCKH/Mansfield (95.9), KCKP/Laurie (100.9), KCKV/Kirksville (91.9), KCKZ/Huntsville (103.5), KCVJ/Osceola (100.3), KCVK/Otterville (107.7), KCVO-FM/Camdenton (91.7), KCVQ/Knob Noster (89.7), KCVX/Salem (91.7), KCVY/Cabool (89.9), KCVZ/Dixon (92.1), KSJI/St. Joseph (91.1), and KVSR/Kirksville (90.7).

The FM translators involved in the deal include K207AY, licensed in St. Robert, MO, at 89.3 FM; K208BO, licensed in Warsaw, MO, at 89.5 FM; K211FV, licensed in Sedalia, MO, at 90.1 FM; K254BU, licensed in Marshall, MO, at 98.7 FM; K274CD, licensed in Rolla, MO, at 102.7 FM; K281AT, licensed in Lebanon, MO, at 104.1 FM; K285FC, licensed in Jefferson City, MO, at 104.9 FM; and K293AX, licensed in Jefferson City, MO, at 106.5 FM.

Additionally, the transaction includes six construction permits for KBMA/Albany, MO (88.3); KCKG/Richland, MO; KCKI/Marshall, MO; KCKQ/Ravenwood, MO; KCKU/Rosebud, MO; and KCVA/College Springs.


Bi-Media will sell KJAV/McAllen-Brownsville-Harlingen, TX to Christian Ministries of the Valley for a total of $1.45 million, including a $1.14 million promissory note. Christian Ministries of the Valley, already the owner of 16 stations in Texas, continues to expand its presence in the region.

Educational Media Foundation intends to purchase WYGC/Gainesville-Ocala, FL (104.9) from JVC Media for $454,235. 

Bouldin Radio has initiated a $380,000 agreement to acquire gospel station WNRJ/Parkersburg-Marietta, WV-OH (103.9 Praise FM) from the Fellowship Baptist Church of Vienna, WV. 

Olivet Nazarene University intends to donate construction permit station WONS/New Castle, IN (91.5), to Positive Alternative Radio. The filing sets the donation value at $150,000.

The Payson Seventh-Day Adventist Church has concluded a $2,500 transaction with Good News Broadcasting Network for the sale of religious station KJPN/Payson, AZ (89.3).

  • Makes one wonder if Positive Alternative Radio now regrets giving away the Union City signal…New Castle’s probably wouldn’t overlap it, but the two stations wouldn’t have been terribly far from each other.
