KCVO/Camdenton, MO (Spirit FM) General Manager PD/Mornings Jim McDermott is winding down his last days with the station and nearly 39 years. In March this year Lake Area Educational Broadcasting Foundation announced it would sell the Spirit FM stations to Northwestern Media. The deal is expected to close July 3, 2023.
Jim tells HisAir, “My last day on the air is Friday, tomorrow. I turn over the keys on the 5th.”
Spirit FM started in 1985 as a small 3,000 watt station, KCVO, reaching just the Lake of the Ozarks area. The vision to expand was birthed when KCVO began building small translator stations in Jefferson City, Sedalia, St. Robert and Knob Noster. Eventually they were building and buying full power stations and the growing network became Spirit FM in 1994. Since that time, the expansion has added 18 signals all over the state of Missouri, and recently added a new worship station, Elevate FM.
The Spirit FM team celebrated the retirement of Jim McDermott this week. Spirit FM promotions director Brook Ulum said, “When you look back over the 38 1/2 years at Spirit FM, you see one constant and faithful combination; Jim, Alice and Jesus. “Well done, Jim” is all we can say.”
HisAir will feature an EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Jim next week.

Radio By Grace/Amarillo has entered into a Letter of Intent to donate 5 radio signals to the Worship 24/7 Network based in Wilsonville, Oregon. Worship 24/7 will soon take over ownership and operations of WJEP Cusseta, GA (91.9 FM) plus translators in Le Mars, IA, Sioux City IA, Ottumwa, IA and Burley, ID. In exchange, David Harms, founder and President of Worship 24/7, will engage as a strategist in the fundraising efforts of the Radio By Grace Network.
“We are excited to be able to contribute to the structural development of Worship 24/7 and to partner with David at a strategic level for Radio By Grace,” states Doug Gehm, Director of Radio By Grace.
Adds Harms, “Over a year ago a partnership with Radio By Grace brought Worship 24/7 to Amarillo, and this agreement further deepens the relationship and allows for future growth in using WJEP as the ‘feeder’ signal to any other translator expansion in the future.”
This donation is pending FCC approval with the timeframe to close expected by the end of summer.
Radio By Grace is a nonprofit Christian radio network based in Amarillo, TX and operating 79 signals in 21 states. Worship 24/7 is currently airing its all worship format on KTDD/Tacoma, WA, KYOZ-95.7 FM in Spokane, WA, KBZD/Amarillo, TX, KURT/Central Oregon and online.
