Industry News Bits Mon 4-19-21

Nielsen March PPM Ratings arrive TODAY. HisAir will have all the results for Christian Radio subscribing stations all week. Monday markets include Atlanta, Dallas, Houston plus more. Christian Radio Ratings are sponsored by Dunham+Company.


Salem Media Group, Inc. announced today that Chuck Jewel is retiring from Salem Media Group’s Houston cluster of stations (100.7 KKHT FM, and 1070 KNTH AM) effective April 30, 2021. Chuck joined Salem in September of 2004. Prior to joining Salem, Chuck’s 48-year career included a long run at WHO/KLYF in Des Moines, Iowa where he rose through the ranks into sales management followed by becoming a General Manager in 1988.

About his time at Salem, Chuck said, “The 16 ½ years with Salem have been the most fulfilling of my career.”

Darren Ryder will replace Chuck as General Manager. Darren has over 20 years of experience leading teams with Time Warner Cable, Spectrum, and most recently Townsquare Media. He was also the General Manager for Salem’s Orlando operation a number of years ago. Salem Senior VP, Linnae Young said, “We are delighted to have Darren re-join Salem. Darren is an innovative leader, who has developed sales and marketing strategies resulting in impressive growth for his clients and his teams. He has worked on local, regional, and national levels in both audio and digital.”


Brian Crowe, host of “Gospel Radio Favorites” program is launching a TV show. The 30 minute program is called Gospel Radio Favorites Showcase. A television program featuring live artist performances, artist music videos, interviews, industry news and much more. The first episode will air in May 2021.
Brian tells HisAir, “Currently we have 5 television stations picking the program up throughout Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. We have many others interested.”

KTSY/Boise is celebrating its record breaking spring fundraiser last week. The station reached its highest average gift size, most money raised, and most days were biggest days in history. Overall 121% of the goal was attained. Congrats to KTSY GM Brian Yeager and the i58:10 Media team who assisted.  


WAKW/Cincinnati (STAR 93.3) hosted their April Share last week.  PD Jeff Evans told HisAir, “The event ended at 107% of the goal!”

New online station LifeRadio.fm  launched this morning. LifeRadio.fm features The Mark & Mack Show (Mark Congleton) and (Dave Mackin) in mornings 5-10 CT. The duo is best known in Christian Radio for their time at WDJC/Birmingham hosting mornings in the early 2000’s. They also hosted shows at Birmingham stations WYSF, WAPI, and WIAT TV. Mark & Mack tell HisAir, “Our goal is to be a pep rally for Christians who are active in sharing their faith as well as challenging believers who have been sitting in the same spot on the same pew every Sunday without ever experiencing the freedom that comes from a relationship with Jesus. We want to reach people who don’t know Jesus and show them a side of Christianity that they have never seen.”
