Walla Walla University-based Christian music network Positive Life Radio has significantly expanded its coverage for the first time since 1997 with its purchase of a station to serve the Portland, Oregon area.

“Serving the Portland area has been our dream for over 20 years,” said general manager Chris Gilbreth. “We’re looking forward to serving new listeners in the area and helping the local churches have a voice in the wider community.

With the new signal, KPLP 104.5 FM, Positive Life Radio has a new potential audience of over 2,500,000 – about four times as many potential listeners as they had before. Two transmitters will serve the Portland area: one in the west hills of Portland that signed on July 7th, and another near Hood River that will sign on later this year.

In addition to the Portland signals, Positive Life radio has expanded into Astoria, Oregon/Long Beach, Washington areas on KCPL 90.5 FM in conjunction with its partner organization, Growing Christian Foundation.

Since its beginning in 1963 at KGTS/Walla Walla Valley, (1.3) Positive Life Radio has expanded to a total of 5 full-power stations and 13 translators serving a potential weekly audience of over 2.5 million.

After 10 years of serving at KJIC/Houston (90.5) PD/mornings Sean Vaughn has accepted the position as Chief Engineer at Cox Media Group in Houston. CMG Houston operates 4 FM mainstream stations 92.9 (93Q), 97.1 (Country Legends), 106.5/107.5 (The Eagle)

Sean, who just got married over the weekend, tells HisAir, “KJIC was my foundation and my home. My parents founded this ministry, and I was raised in it. I’ve learned so much, and I will never forget it and will be forever grateful. I am also so blessed to have been a part of the genesis of Christian Country Music as a major mainstream format. I pray that all I have contributed so far (and still hope to give for many more years) will always bring honor and glory to God and lead people to salvation. I still plan to help my parents out if they need occasional help with any broadcasting equipment. I look forward to the new chapters God is opening for me in my careers.”

KJIC is actively looking for candidates to fill the morning show, resume’s can be submitted to kjic@kjic.org.

Vaughn’s last day at KJIC is November 11th.
