WAWZ/New York (Star 99.1) turns twenty today. February 3, 2003 the station flipped the switch from Christian Preaching to Christian AC.
Its original format at WAWZ was traditional and classical music and church services. In later years inspirational contemporary Christian music and Christian teaching and talk shows were added. The format tagline was WAWZ – Your Voice of Faith and Inspiration. The station is listener supported/commercial and owned by the Pillar of Fire International. Call letters WAWZ honor Bishop Alma White, who was the founder of the Pillar of Fire Church and Zarephath.

On Valentine’s Day, February 14, Maasbach Radio based in The Hague/Holland will be doing a 12-hour long LIVE marathon, called HEART TO HEART.
Maasbach Radio PD On air host Christy Grace tells HisAir, We’ll have special guests stepping into the studio each hour to join our listeners in celebrating love and a longing to share that love with others. The 12-hour long live event will also be livestreamed on Maasbach Radio’s Instagram account from 8 AM to 8 PM (Central European Time).

Strong Tower Christian Media welcomes Rebekah Quinter as their new Listener Engagement Director. Rebekah was a Cedarville University student majoring in Christian Ministries and involved in campus radio for several years.

Southern Gospel music radio program “The Gospel Greats,” celebrated its 44th anniversary on the air this week. The Gospel Greats” syndicated weekly radio show is carried on well over 100 radio stations across America. Host Rodney Baucom replaced program founder Paul Heil who passed away in December 2020.
The Gospel Greats program airs each week on nearly 200 radio stations throughout the United States, Canada and elsewhere.
Family Radio has been broadcasting since February 4, 1959. The Christian network celebrates 64 years of sharing the Gospel. Today Family Radio includes over 40 full-power stations and an additional 27 FM translators.
In 2019 Family Radio announced it would be moving its headquarters from Alameda, CA to Nashville. New headquarters / broadcast facility in nearby Franklin, TN was completed in January 2020.
Inside Radio reports its Format Counts monitor for January shows Religion lost five stations in the past year, but none since December. CCM, ranked fourth, saw the biggest gains with a net increase of 21 stations year-over-year and six since December. These stations were mostly owned by EMF, which added new KLOVE outlets in 11 markets such as San Antonio, Salt Lake City, and San Francisco.
Absolutely Gospel announced the nominees for the 2023 Absolutely Gospel Music Awards, which will take place on April 18, 2023. As in years past, the nominees were chosen by the staff of AbsolutelyGospel.com and select media representatives. Starting on February 1, 2023, fans will get a chance to vote for their favorites in several categories.
