With Jeremy and Caryn Sweat leaving WFFH/Nashville (94 FM The Fish), and heading to mornings at KCBI/Dallas, The Fish will add Amanda Carroll to mid-days (10a-3p central) and on the Today’s Christian Music Network.  A search for the new WFFH PD is underway.

The NRB says it supports The Local Radio Freedom Act (H.Con.Res.33) which declares that “Congress should not impose any new performance fee, tax, royalty, or other charge relating to the public performance of sound recordings on a local radio station for broadcasting sound recordings over the air, or on any business for such public performance of sound recordings.”

With 207 cosponsors in the House as of this writing, the Local Radio Freedom Act (LRFA) is just a handful of cosponsors away from the 218 needed to constitute a majority of the House of Representatives, a threshold that demonstrates that any performance tax proposal would be dead on arrival. What would this legislation mean for NRB’s membership and the radio industry at large? Let’s unpack the facts about performance royalties and the LRFA.

We were delighted to hear a phone call from Tonga Christian Radio (93.1) station manager Willy Florian and to hear that he, his family, and the radio hosts are well – and that the station is back on the air broadcasting. Please continue to pray for the staff of Tonga Christian Radio and all on the Tongan islands affected by the massive volcano eruptions and tsunami over the past weekend.  Clean water and food supplies are urgently needed as water supplies have been contaminated and crops are dying because of the heavy ash-fall.

You can hear Willy sharing about the impact of the eruptions and tsunami, and how the people are working together, HERE.

Singing News Radio PD Joseph Reed is now hosting nights Southern Gospel Nights request show 7-9pm on Singing News Radio.

TWR has been broadcasting 14 Bible-grounded programs each week into the Central Asia nation of Kazakhstan (pop.19 million people).

Even before the recent weeks of upheaval, in which more than 200 people died in clashes between protesters and police, these broadcasts from the Silk Road transmitter outside the country were playing a vital role. Preachers who can minister in local languages to underground home groups are in short supply.

“If someone comes to Christ, we cannot take him immediately in our group, because some of the newcomers turned us in to the police,” one preacher told us. “We were fined by the police. Now we work very cautiously. Despite the pressure from the community, our groups are growing.”

Some groups gather only very late at night to hear the Word preached. And those who are hungry for spiritual nourishment need a readily available, private way to receive it.

“[The radio] is a small and common thing,” the preacher said. “Everyone can listen to it. Radio waves can penetrate through the walls and reach the souls of the people.”

January 28th is the last day to get discounted rates for NRB 2022 in Nashville.
