Brian Wright “In the Blink Of An Eye”
In the seismic wake of the horrible events in Orlando this past week we find our lives shifting to a different context. We realize that life is but a blink of an eye in the grand scale of history, shaped by the people and events around us. We can’t escape what is real, though many try in various ways. It would be great if this were only a movie that again finds a happy ending but that isn’t realistic either. What is realistic and will bring change would be the decision to make every minute in your life and others count in everyway you can.
Look for every opportunity to encourage and inspire the people around you no matter if you like them or not. Look for ways to make others happy ahead of yourself. Replace hate with love and compassion. This hate has hurt you just as much as whom you directed it to. Aspire to be remembered for what you have done not what you’ve said. Share with others what you believe with kindness and respect and make it interesting. Treat those who mean you harm counter intuitively. Don’t let them make you miserable like they are. This could transform their lives. We’ve learned to love systems and use people in our workplace. It’s time to do just the opposite. Do something good for a complete stranger every week; it will change his/her world. Don’t be self-righteous, no one admires that. Know that this world isn’t just about you… it’s about us.
Look for ways to change the world you live in no matter how big or small. The little things make a big difference. Water at 211 degrees is just hot water. Water at just 1 degree hotter at 212 degrees boils and can power a steam engine to pull hundreds of tons box cars down a track. The truth is that we are stronger together than we could ever be apart.
