Brian Curee “3 Reasons to Adjust Your Plans and Join God in What He Is Doing”

If you’re reading this, then I’m assuming you’re a Christian radio station that serves a local community. Your goal is to be the best at what you do. You want to provide great content, create an excellent listening experience for all of your listeners, and help them see Jesus. But sometimes we need to step back and ask,  “Are we so focused on what we can do for our community that we’ve forgotten to join God in what He’s already doing in our local community?” In this article, I’d like to share three reasons why you should consider joining God in what He is doing in your local community.

1) It’s BIGGER Than You

The first reason it’s important to start looking for what God is doing around you is that it’s BIGGER than your radio station. One of our core values at Killer Bee Marketing is to be humbly honest, which sounds simple but it’s not always easy. I’ve been inspired by what I’ve seen others doing in my local community before and instead of joining them I’ve wondered how I could do the same thing. And to be brutally honest, at times, I’ve wondered how I could do it better than they are. Sounds very Christ-like, right? 🤦‍♂️

Over the years, I’ve learned that God calls us to join Him in what He’s already doing. And that’s not always going to start with you, nor does He expect or want your station to become the single source of making things happen in your local community.

Remember the song “King of the World” by Natalie Grant? In case you don’t, you can watch the video below before you continue reading.

King Of The World Music Video

The first verse says, “I try to fit you in the walls inside my mind / I try to keep you safely in between the lines / I try to put you in the box that I’ve designed / I try to pull you down so we are eye to eye / When did I forget that you’ve always been / The king of the world?”

He is the King of the world, and He is already doing things in your local community- things He wants you to join Him in being part of.

What would that look like at your radio station? Maybe your station could partner with local food pantries to help feed hungry people in your community. Or your station could work with local churches. Some churches have counselors that may be able to give you some insight into what people are struggling within your area, or local police departments may be willing to share what challenges they’re facing daily. Like drug addictions, abuse, etc. By connecting with ministries or businesses in your community you could serve your local listeners better because it will help you understand and relate to their specific needs.

2) People Trust People They Know

The second reason you should join God in what He’s doing is that people trust those they know. When I think about how much time and resources we spend trying to reach local communities, it makes sense that the best way to connect with someone is through a trusted source. For example, if your station was looking to help married couples that are struggling, why wouldn’t you reach out to local counselors, churches, or maybe even local Facebook groups that are geared around married couples? They’ve already built trust with these couples. Sure, you could do your own thing and promote it on digital to market what you’re offering, but why? Ask yourself, are you filling a need or trying to recreate something that God is already doing in your community through another organization or business?

If you take the time to connect and build friendships with other local ministries and businesses, as mentioned earlier, with time your station will build trust with those businesses and ministries. That’s when the local businesses and ministries will start voluntarily telling their trusted people about your station, organically. You just can’t beat a trusted referral by word-of-mouth.

3) You Need To Be Local Too!

The third reason you need to start joining God is that it’s the only way your station can truly call itself local. You work here, and might live here, so why not serve your community by investing time and money into things they care about by serving alongside other organizations and local businesses. Serving is success. Jesus modeled this himself. He wasn’t about His own business or work. He was all about God’s business and He joined God in what He was doing, where He was doing it. Does the local community see that kind of serving at your radio station? Is your station joining God in what He’s doing in the community? If you are, that is AWESOME and I will ask you to share what you’re doing in the comments below.

Serving Together

When you’re willing to join God in what He’s already doing, it doesn’t matter how small or big your station is. It’s a beautiful sight to watch ministries and businesses serve together, hand in hand. Isn’t that the way the body of Christ is intended to work? We each have a unique calling, but none of us were created or called to do it alone. He is doing things in your community, and He is inviting you to join Him.
