Bill Scott “Every Fundraiser Has Challenges”
Every fundraiser has challenges!
If you’ve done fundraising for a while, you know then that there are no two fundraisers that are alike. You also have become aware that for every fundraiser, you will always have a challenge to deal with during the event. I have stations ask me all the time, “do other stations have problems like staff getting sick, equipment breaking, and other challenges every time during their fundraising event?” The answer is a big yes!
We have to prepare for every event the best way we possibly can. We need back up plans, and we need to pray over our events. It’s important when a challenge hits you, to keep calm and know that God has this. When you’re dealing with creative types in the studio, they often can get flustered with what’s going on when facing a challenge that is that at hand. When the creative types on air began to get flustered, the fundraising usually goes downhill quite quickly. It’s important to keep them in a good headspace where they realize it’s only a challenge, and we can make it through it. We just need to keep doing good radio, stay focused, share the stories and let people know what’s going on.
Just the other day I was on the air with a morning team during their fundraising event for the spring. We found out within the first couple of minutes that the call center that we were using was not online. Their main provider for telephone service had gone out. We had to look at doing the whole morning show without a phone center, and only online giving. It was important to remind the morning team that we were still good, we let the listeners in on what was happening, and we made it sound like a big challenge that needed to be conquered. At the end of the morning drive, we realize that we had hit all of the goals we needed to with out a phone center. It’s important in keeping the right perspective during the challenging times so it doesn’t impact your fundraiser in a bad way.
At the end of the day God has us, and will provide for the radio station. There will be times that you get hit hard with challenges during a fundraiser, don’t let fear set in, keep moving forward knowing that God has your back. There’s no doubt that some of the challenges that we face during a fundraiser are spiritual attacks on the radio ministry. This is why it’s so important to cover your spring, fall or any fundraiser with prayer. Remember, EVERY radio ministry has had this happen, and if you haven’t, you will.
This spring know that challenges will come during your fundraiser. Be prepared! Be prayed up, and rely on God to get you through to the other side. I am praying you all have a phenomenal fundraising season. Generosity continues throughout America even during tough times that we are all facing economically and with the war going on. Crush it this spring.

It’s easier to count the fundraisers that DON”T have challenges – because 99.9% of them do in one form or another. RTN works hard to make our fundraising sound FUN … but we know it’s also serious spiritual business. The message of Jesus we share changes lives and the forces of this world don’t like that. Our listeners deciding to give is a spiritual act as well. Anything that gives them pause or cause NOT to do what their heart is telling them to do, is a big win for the evil one. Good advice Bill, as always!
