WVNE owner Blount Communications Group said the station relies on two

Compassion
International, the world’s largest one-to-one child sponsorship
organization encourages all of Christian media to dedicate one day of
broadcast on
February 10, 2010,
to help children and families around the world who have been affected by
The Global Food Crisis.
“I have been
fighting poverty for more than 30 years,” said
Wess Stafford, president and
CEO of Compassion International.
“Throughout that time I have never seen the potential for devastation
that I see in the current Global Food Crisis.
February 10, 2010 is
Global Food Crisis Day, a day where hundreds of Christian
broadcasters can join together with one voice to wake the nation to this
worldwide hunger emergency.” According to the United
Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP), food aid is at a 20-year low
despite the number of critically hungry people soaring this year to its
highest level ever and the number of hungry people will pass 1 billion
this year for the first time.
“Millions have been
buffeted by the global financial down turn. Their ability to buy food is
limited by stubbornly high prices. In addition, unpredictable weather
patterns are causing more weather-related hunger," the WFP said. On
March 11, 2009,
over 1,000 radio stations and other media helped raise over $3 million
through the generous donations of over 28,000 listeners. Global Food
Crisis Day 2010 hopes to match or exceed that amount.
Compassion is uniquely positioned to provide
immediate relief by transferring funds through their existing
infrastructure and ensuring that those that need help most are helped
first. Radio stations and others interested in participating in
Global Food Crisis Day on
February 10, 2010
can go to:

to get more information. “My hope is that every domestic Christian radio
station will participate with us,” says
Wess
Stafford. “We as the body of Christ
have an obligation to ‘…help your brothers until the Lord gives them
rest, as He has done for you.’” (Joshua 1: 14-15) (12/14)

 ChristianNetcast.com
is celebrating ten years of service to the Christian community. At the
National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville this month
ChristianNetcast celebrated its ten year anniversary by giving away
laptops, Wii gaming system, jackets, hats and T-shirts. The company also
unveiled its new tradeshow display that took up a twenty by thirty foot
space on the show floor.
The company was formed in Bangor
Maine, “We were once asked how an internet company was started in what
was once the lumber capital of the world, not an area known for
technology” states David Palmer VP of Sales and Marketing. “It started
out as us trying to assist our local church in broadcasting its services
and we grew from there.”
Considered by many to be an
authority in the area of internet broadcasting and ministry,
ChristianNetcast.com leads the nation by providing streaming services
for over 500 radio stations and ministries world wide. Todd VanTasel is
the VP of technology met Palmer at church and asked “do you think we
could sell this service?” Since then, the two have worked closely
building a company that “gives ministries a global impact”. VanTasel, a
graduate of Liberty University, provided the technical expertise to
develop the services provided by ChristianNetcast as well and the
network design to best serve ChristianNetcast customers. “We provide
good service and support that is what has made us who we are” states
VanTasel. Through out the years the company has been featured in news
paper, magazines and TV networks such as TBN, CBN, Fox News and NBC
Nightly News. When asked what the next 10 years holds Palmer concluded,
“We have seen the internet change our lives and in the next 10 years it
will change faster than ever before.”

 WCQR/Gray
challenged their listeners to purchase a food basket for $25 that would
go to Second Harvest Food Bank. The goal was 500 baskets.
Mike Perry, General Manger of WCQR said “this was the first time we ever
tried something like this and we thought 500 baskets would be great.
But we were all overwhelmed when our listeners generously gave over
1,112 baskets to feed the hungry in our community. Perry said the idea
came from all the media reports of families going without food.
“We couldn’t stand the thought of that happening so we decided to do
something about it.” Not only will these families receive food for
their stomachs, they will also receive food for their souls as Life Way
Christian Stores has donated a New Testament Bible to put into each box.

Christian ministry Trans World Radio will change its name to TWR
on November 18, 2009. At the same time, the organization also will adopt
the positioning statement "Speaking Hope to the World" to fortify its
new identity. "While our commitment to radio broadcasting remains
steadfast, the name Trans World Radio no longer fully conveys the scope
of our organization," says TWR President Lauren Libby. "TWR is more than
radio. It is a multifaceted media ministry. By changing the name to TWR,
we will maintain radio as a keystone communication component all the
while employing a strategic integration of new media platforms. In fact,
we will even seek to enlarge our broadcasting footprint." (11/16)

been able to ‘Pay it Forward’ to an elderly homebound couple in need of
a garbage disposal, and provide warm socks to the homeless and needy in
Fayetteville. The best part is this is just the beginning of a month
filled with generosity.” Beginning
Nov. 1, KLRC started asking listeners to go to KLRC.com and let them
know how they would “Pay it Forward” if they were given $101.
Thanks to Arvest Bank, three listeners will be selected from the

 Culminating
2 days of their first-ever broadcast fundraising event (Sharathon),
United Christian Broadcasters (UCB), through the help of Polaris
Fundraising Worldwide and ShareMedia Services, raised the final funds
needed to witness a milestone vision, first cast by UCB founder, Ian
Mackie 23 years ago…bringing Christian Radio to the entire United
Kingdom. Just one week prior the British Government amazingly, approved
UCB's Nationwide Broadcast License and at 10:00 pm GMT on November 5,
2009 the final funding, $1,230,000 (£750,000) was raised to underwrite
this broadcast offering for an entire year.
In studio to coach
and consult with the broadcast team at UCB, ShareMedia Services
President Todd Isberner, who provided this proclamation via
international text, “After everything added in, the total at 10pm was
763,000 pounds!! Over the goal of 750,000! “Unbelievable celebration and
praise. Haven't felt this much fresh excitement and faith since my early
days of Christian radio. We've been smothered in love by this new family
of ours. What a privilege!” UCB, which had previously been
broadcasting to most major cities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland
on digital audio broadcast (DAB) has now signed contracts and been
granted approval, to broadcast nationally across the entire UK
(including Northern Ireland).
“This is an extraordinary dream come
true,” said Ian Mackie, CEO and founder of UCB UK. “We have had a
23-year old dream and vision to broadcast nationally across the UK and
it’s an overwhelming and humbling day to finally see that dream come to
fruition”. (11/11)

petitioning for equal rights half a century ago,” said President Obama,
speaking to the Human Rights Campaign on October 11. “I’m just shocked
that such a comparison would be made,” said Dr. Tony Evans, Senior
Pastor of Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship in Dallas and Host of the
nationally-syndicated broadcast, “The Urban Alternative.” “That is
ridiculous! “Civil rights have to do with, first of all, biblically, a
standard for how you treat your fellow men who’ve been created in the
image of God,” Dr. Evans explained. “God directly condemns
homosexuality as outside of that creative order in Romans Chapter 1.
So that’s not part of God’s creative order, so that comparison is
totally false.”

President/GM Rob Robbins clarify's an earlier news post on
HisAir.Net this week, "The CALL's WMYE Fort Myers-Cape Coral 91.9 FM
signal went on the air June 24th of last year (2008). However,
we've recently completed a reshuffling of translator stations which
officially became complete last week when we changed our Naples
translator to 107.7 FM - the switch was completed on 10.7 at 1:07 to
107.7 FM. The FCC had approved the change the week prior so it was
a catchy way to promote the change in signal to our listeners. The
CALL, in Southwest and Southeast Florida combined is now reaching 40%
more potential listeners than last year and completely covers all of
Southwest Florida now from Naples to Punta Gorda, including the town of
Immokalee in Eastern Collier County. Our last big project slated
to be completed by February is to relocate WMKL 91.9 FM in Southeastern
Florida to a new site in Miami-Dade County to increase coverage to a
substantial portion of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. (10/16)
The
Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill to require radio
stations to pay royalties to performers when their music is aired.
The vote marks the furthest congressional progress yet for the measure,
although it is still far from becoming law. Broadcast radio stations now
pay song royalties to songwriters and producers, but they don't pay
performance fees for playing the artists' music. In contrast, cable,
satellite and Internet radio pay performance royalties. Under the bill,
large radio companies such as Clear Channel Communications Inc. and Cox
Radio Inc. would be required to pay negotiated royalties to performers
for playing their music on the air. The measure includes features to
accommodate financial woes of smaller broadcasters. Broadcasters making
less than $50,000 a year could elect to pay $ 100 as a flat fee to play
all the music they want. Mid-sized stations also would have flat-fee
royalty options on a tiered basis.
A similar bill passed the House Judiciary
Committee earlier this year. Rep. Howard Berman, D-Calif., one of the
lead sponsors in the House, has acknowledged that the measure isn't
likely to see a House floor vote this year because it doesn't yet have
enough supporters.
The National Association of Broadcasters has been lobbying aggressively
against the bill and has garnered enough members in the House to stop
the bill from becoming law. The NAB argues that performers receive free
promotions worth millions when their music airs on the radio.
Broadcasters also say the extra cost for the
royalties would be devastating to their businesses. The Minority Media
and Telecommunications Council and the National Association of Media
Brokers told Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, D-Vt.,
earlier this week that the legislation would throw at least a third of
minority broadcasters into bankruptcy.
The musicians' supporters - the Recording Industry
Association of America and the American Federation of Television and
Radio Artists among them - say the U.S. is the only industrialized
country in the world that doesn't pay performance royalties. That
disparity costs American musicians between $70 million and $100 a
million a year, according to Leahy. The bill also includes language to
set the same general royalty rates across different broadcast platforms,
a particular concern for Internet radio. Sen. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif.,
has asked for such changes, and further negotiation on those provisions
is expected. (10/15)

York (STAR 99.1) PD/morning host Johnny Stone and Jeff Owen of the
band Tenth Avenue North joined together to participate in the 8th Annual
Tunnel to Towers Run on September 27, 2009 in New York City. The Tunnel
to Towers Run is a 5k that celebrates the legacy of Stephen Siller, a
NYC Firefighter, who on September 11th ran through the Brooklyn Battery
Tunnel to the World Trade Center while wearing 75 pound of gear. Stephen
perished on that day while rescuing victims of 9/11. There were over
25,000 participants from all parts of the metropolitan area, across the
country and from as far away as England and Hawaii that attended the
Run/Walk.

Johnny said, “I am honored to be apart of this event that recognizes
the sacrifices of those who protect us. I plan on coming back next
year with a team STAR 99.1 runners”. (9/29)
 KLRC/Fayetteville
increased it's coverage area by signing on its second translator at
103.5. “While our main signal at 101.1FM already reaches these
areas, we’ve had a desire for a long time to improve our signal in this
area,” said KLRC General Manager Sean Sawatzky. “One of the benefits of
the new translator is that listeners can now tune in at work or at
home.” KLRC’s new translator marks the second enhancement to the
station’s signal in the last four years. In February 2005, KLRC began
broadcasting from its first translator at 99.1 FM in Bentonville.

 WRAF/Toccoa
Falls, GA has launched a Christian Radio app for the iPhone / iPod
Touch. The new application allows listeners to access not only the live
stream from WRAF-FM, but also their internet station gospel formatted,

apps is that users can interact with WRAF through their blog, Facebook,
Twitter, and YouTube channel. Christian Podcasts, a local events

“In a world where so many are using iPhones and social networking, we
wanted to make sure that our listeners always have a direct link to
their favorite station no matter what technology is being utilized or
where they are,” noted Race. “The prospect of reaching new listeners is
also very real. Around 50 million iPhones and iPod Touches have been
sold to date and analysts project that number to top 100 million by the
end of 2010.” (9/28)

 KVTT/Dallas-Fort
Worth will sign off from its 91.7 frequency tonight at 6pm (9/28)
after 33 years and switch programming to 1110AM. KVTT GM Doug Price said
the station has entered into a lease agreement with North Texas-based
M&M Broadcasters that will enable the switch to the AM "daytime"
“There are some months of the year when you don’t sign on till a quarter
till 8 in the morning,” Price said. “[But] we’re going to have KVTT.com,
which will carry everything the station does carry, and overnight it
will continue with programming.” Price added that the FCC has approved a
power increase to 50,000 watts.

to a nonprofit organization. Mississippi’s oldest radio station is off
the air again, but perhaps not definitely.
Christian talk show host Michael Corley, says “It’s bittersweet. We’ve
accomplished a lot,” said Corley, president of Grace. Technical problems
have continued to hinder broadcasting by the station, and, he said, led

 Focus
on the Family is terminating 75 staff members to offset a $6 million
revenue shortfall, officials announced Wednesday at the Colorado Springs
headquarters. The lost jobs, of which roughly a third are management
positions, represent about 8 percent of the ministry's 935-person
workforce, spokesman Gary Schneeberger said. Last November, Focus on the
Family eliminated just over 200 positions. The ministry, which had more
than 1,400 employees in 2002, is now left with 860.
"The economic reality out there is recession. Faced with that, we
looked at everything we could do to improve structure, strategy and
efficiency while carrying out the work we're called to do — helping
families thrive," Schneeberger said.
"At the grassroots level, we're still able to have an important place
in the lives of those families," Schneeberger said. "That's an
encouraging sign for us going forward." Terminated employees will get
severance pay, based on length of service. The ministry also will help
employees with job searches — including providing them with access to
Focus campus computers, he said. (9/4)
 WVFJ/Atlanta
(J93.3) made some big staff changes yesterday including letting go their
morning show the husband and wife team of "Monk and Kelly" (Johnathon
Monk and Dianna Kelly). “It was awesome. We had the best
listeners,” Monk said. “it was fun. My wife and I appreciated the
support from everybody. We got to know the band members and lead
vocalists of the great Christian bands. We did an interesting show. We
mixed Hollywood celebrities with Christian artists.” Mid-day man
Mike Lindsey takes over
mornings with part-time Sheila Richards.
All part timers were cut loose including traffic person Kaye
Williams, whose husband promotions director Steve Williams remains with
the station. According to sources sales have been cut to commission
only, and all bonuses removed… as well as their sales consultant,
programming consultant, and their agreement with Arbitron has been
terminated to trim the station budget. (9/3)

 The
GMA announces it will undergo "organizational changes" to respond to
the current economic recession, and the shifting shape of the gospel
music industry, according to Ed Leonard, president of Daywind Music
Group and the new chairman of the GMA Board of Directors. As the
volunteer governing body of the GMA, the Board of Directors approved a
plan to return the association to a more volunteer-driven operation with
a scaled down staff that will facilitate and coordinate GMA events and
programs. The first step came in May when GMA eliminated several paid
staff positions including President/CEO John Styll's. The Board will
substitute a managerial level professional to oversee staff at the GMA
office. The position has not yet been filled.
"There is no way to adequately summarize John's
contributions to GMA, not only in his professional capacity for the last
six years, but in the many more years he has served on the GMA Board of
Directors, and on which he will continue to serve as a permanent
lifetime member. His action of leaving his position for the benefit of
the association tells the story better than my words could," said
Leonard. The streamlining of GMA has been fueled by the economy as well
as the changing profile of GMA's membership, the most important audience
it serves and the association's principal source of income. While record
labels, radio stations, retailers and other traditional categories of
members continue to support the GMA, an increasing percentage of GMA's
membership is made up of independent artists, songwriters and musicians
and other small music business professionals who are looking to GMA for
community, networking and advocacy.
"GMA's mission has been and will continue to be to
expose, promote and celebrate the Gospel through music. We remain
committed to equipping the association with the tools and resources
required to do the job right. We are grateful to all those who have
partnered with us in the last 45 years and will continue to do so in the
future as we fulfill a vital purpose," said Leonard. (9/3)
 KCVO/Camdenton

plugging into the community.
Missouri is HOME for my family PLUS we now live on the lake...life is
good!" Jack will be the Marketing/Promotions Director The Spirit
