"The Light" WLGH / Lansing plays musical chairs with it's talent lineup starting Septmeber 3rd. Swinger Tim Chappell is upped to full time AM drive host with Tiana.  Former AM co-host Mike Couchman moves to afternoons from 3-7.  WLGH General Manager Jenn Czelada leaves her daily PM drive slot to focus on off-air duties. Good news for Christian music retailers. R&R reports Calendar-year sales for Christian music reached 30 million during the week ending Aug.18...earlier than ever before. CD sales are up 27% over 2001, and CD singles are up a substantial 25%. While the mainstream music market has plunged by about 10%, Christian is up 17% overall from 2001, making it one of only two music formats to experience an upswing in sales this year. (8/26)

New WQCK "The Bridge" / Baton Rouge PD Jason Sharp has decided not to stay with the station. He joined WQCK on August 5th coming from the PD/Morning position at WCQR / Johnson City, TN. WYLV "Love 89.1 FM" / Knoxville hosted the first ever "Days of Praise", a 3 Day Christian Music Festival in Dollywood (Pigeon Forge TN). It was a resounding success with 12 bands on 5 stages  August 16-18th. Attendees stayed through 2 thunderstorms on Friday and 4 on Saturday to fill each and every stage and theater as well as Sunday. Bands and artists attending: Audio A, Rebecca St.James, Avalon, The Benjamin Gate, Skillet, Solomons Wish, Russ Lee, Anointed, Joy Williams, Andrew Carlton, Salvador and Jake. (8/20)

The newly formed Christian Music Broadcasters is hosting a meet-and-greet dessert buffet during the NAB Radio Show in Seattle. The event will be held in the Soundview Room at the Seattle Hilton near the convention center on Friday evening, September 13, at 7:30 p.m.This will be an opportunity to meet members of Christian Music Broadcasters and to build relationships with Christians in mainstream radio. Radio Ink publisher Eric Rhoads will be a special guest, discussing trends in radio and our culture that will help both ministry and mainstream radio communicate more effectively.Christian Music Broadcasters has produced the National Christian Radio Seminars (NCRS) during the Gospel Music Association convention in Nashville each April. CMB recently incorporated as a separate entity from GMA, believing there should be an organization focused exclusively on Christian radio. CMB will continue to work with GMA, but will also produce the Radio Boot Camp at NRB in February, and is committed to working in partnership with GMA, NRB, RAB and NAB.  (8/19)


WAY-FM partnered with World Servants on a Mission Trip to Ecuador August 2 through 11, 2002.  Eighty Listeners joined WAY-FM staff from Nashville, TN; West Palm Beach, FL; and Colorado Springs, CO, as well as Rocketown recording artist Shaun Groves to touch the lives of the people of Otovalo, Ecuador.  The team worked on constructing an addition to a Christian School while they were there.  In addition, they helped paint a medical facility, painted murals on a wall at the school and held Vacation Bible School for children in the community. The KSBJ / Houston Summer of Love took 100 listeners to the Dominican Republic this year. The trip was a huge success from many standpoints. New relationships were forged, two churches were built, a Christian school has roughly 100 new desk chairs and over 60 gave their hearts to Jesus. Missionaries will be reuniting tonight at the Enter His Gates Concert and will also be our unofficial ministry spotlight for the concert. (8/16)

88.1 WAY-FM in South Florida welcomed back a group of 80 listeners who went on a mission trip to Ecuador to construct an addition to the school in Otavalo that was built during a previous WAY-FM mission trip four years ago. WAY-FM’s ‘Theresa and Wayne in the Morning’ were able to visit with people on the air who went on the WAY-FM mission trip to Ecuador and hear from them how it was more than just a trip, it changed their lives.   

"The trip to Ecuador was special. I have never seen 80 people work so hard and so well together. The spirit of God strengthened us all and the school we helped is making a real difference in the city of Otavalo.",” said Mike West, Station Manager.  (8/14)

WONU / Chicago's Bill Dewees tells us his station is sponsoring the Bears training camp this year on the campus of Olivet Nazrene University. The Shine 89.7 morning show is broadcasting live. WCLQ (89Q) in Wausau Wisconsin is proud to announce the success of their first ever Christian Music Night at the Wisconsin Woodchucks. On Sunday afternoon (8/11) over 1200 listeners and music fans came together at Wausau's Athletic Park to hear Skillet perform before the Woodchucks' final home game of the year. 89Q Music and Promotions Director Scott Michaels said afterwards, "We're very happy with the turnout for this event. Skillet put on an awesome show, and we look forward to next summer's concert". (8/12)

CMRadio Networks , the Internet’s multi-channel, non-commercial Christian music radio network, has announced a partnership with the Purple Door Festival to provide live audio streaming of the event.  Purple Door, the premier alternative Christian arts and music festival on the east coast, will be held August 16th and 17th in Lewisberry, PA and feature three stages of music, an art gallery, and skate park.  CMRadio.Net will stream all three stages as well as live interviews and commentary of the two-day event. "We're thrilled to have this opportunity to provide our listeners with live performances from an incredible lineup of great artists and speakers" stated George Motter, General Manager of CMRadio.Net. 4 Local churches & 88.1 WLGH The Light / Lansing will collect 20,000+ pounds of clothes for the country of Ukraine. The Light will be collecting gently used clothing and shoes at four locations on September 6th
and 7th. Last year's clothing drive for Ukraine brought in more than 23,000 pounds of clothes and more than 40 boxes of shoes.  With more churches on board this year, bigger results are anticipated. In today's Ukraine, the average wage is less than $50 per month.  The average person has two changes of clothes andone pair of shoes.  Items to be collected will include clothes, purses, shoes, and belts thanks to WLGH PD Mike Couchman and staff!  (8/7)

Victoria Aebischer is leaving her position as Manager of radio Promotions at Reunion Records Friday 8/9. Reunion is hiring the Brad Burkhart and Al Kim to run day to day operations for now. Victoria had this to say concerning her departure "This was a 6 month prayer process for me and it wasn't easy, but I felt it was time for me to move on from Reunion." (8/6)


Salem Communications Second Quarter Same Station Revenues and Broadcast Cash Flow Increase 16% and 19% Respectively. Commenting on the second quarter results, Edward G. Atsinger III, Salem's Chief Executive Officer, said, "We are pleased to deliver some of the best results in the radio industry with same station revenue and broadcast cash flow growth of 16% and 19%, respectively. Results were driven by continued growth at our developing stations and overall improvements in the advertising environment. In addition to our strong operational performance this quarter, we also announced the sale of WYGY-FM in Cincinnati for $45 million. The proceeds from this sale will substantially strengthen our balance sheet. Looking ahead, due to the significant proportion of developing stations in our portfolio, Salem is ideally positioned to take advantage of improving advertising trends and we expect to continue our industry leading growth rates for the remainder of 2002 and into 2003." THE GMA announces that Joy T. Fletcher has been promoted to senior director of programming from director. Fletcher joined the GMA in 1995 with the Academy of Gospel Music Arts. She left in 1996 the returned in 2000. (8/5)


WQCK / Baton Rouge PD Kurt Wallace is exiting for PM drive at WVFJ J93.3 / Atlanta. He'll also handle production and imaging. Wallace's first day at WVFJ will be Aug.12th. WQCK GM Darren Ryder is looking for Kurt's replacement. (8/2)


106.7 The Fish / Chicago makes a few changes adding Amy Davis from Country US99 in Chicago to Middays and moving Smilin Tom to PM drive.  Changes are effective Aug. 5th. (8/2)


Salem will begin marketing it's new Nashville properties Monday Aug. 5th. They are WRLG (94.1) and WYYB (93.7) which were aquired from Tuned-In Broadcasting for 5.6 million cash. The two frequencies will simulcast as "Fish 94". (8/2)


Doug Hannah has been named the new Network Program Director for WAY-FM Media Group, Inc.  His responsibilities will be to oversee the programming decisions on the WAY-FM stations that utilize the CHRSN format.  WAY-FM Media Group’s COO Dusty Rhodes says, “This promotion comes at the right time for WAY-FM’s ministry of stations as we are on the verge of launching new facilities.  Doug will help continue the level of excellence in broadcasting on our new stations, as we have maintained on our current stations.” (7/31)
