WONU/Chicago
(Shine.FM) partnered with World Vision to raise $20,000 for
AIDS relief. For three days Shine.FM broadcast just outside a small
African village. Many of those interviewed during the broadcast were
choking back tears; others commented that they had never seen such
poverty and pain. While the village was a mock-up, the reactions
were real for Christian relief organization World Vision’s
Experience AIDS exhibit at Faith Church in Dyer, Ind. The
2500-square-foot exhibit was laid out to resemble a village in East
Africa and took visitors on a multimedia journey into the life of
one of four children, each one living in an AIDS-affected area. The
exhibit drew more than 2000 people; and more than 260 child
sponsorships resulted from the event. In addition to the
sponsorships, more than $20,000 will be sent directly to Africa
because of what happened at Faith Church. World Vision will use the
funds to provide food, clean water, medical care and economic
development to those living in dangerous poverty. “What sets
Shine.FM apart is that we’re more than just a radio station, because
we exist to impact lives” says afternoon drive host Seth “tower”
Hurd. “It’s only natural for a radio station that patterns itself
after the life of Christ to come alongside to help some of the
poorest people in the world.” (8/29)

him to come to Roaring Springs, a local water park. Staff members
dressed in holiday attire; anything from reindeer ears to Santa

On
the evening of June 21st, WAWZ/New York (STAR
99.1) hosted a concert with INO artist Echoing Angels and Curb
artist Nate Sallie to support those who lost everything in the
recent flooding.
On April 15th and 16th, 15 inches of rain
devastated several neighborhoods in New Jersey. “To see
everyone coming through the rainstorm to listen to the music and
give to those in need was very uplifting,” states Johnny Stone, STAR
99.1’s Morning Show host and Director of Programming. “In this part
of the country, we get a bad rap for not taking care of our own.
This concert and flood relief drive just goes to show that, when
there is a need, people in the Northeast step up and meet it.”
As
the time for the concert grew closer, the clouds started to form,
the wind picked up and the deluge of rain began to fall. “It was a
perfect reminder of why we were there in the first place,” said
Stacey Stone, STAR 99.1 Morning Show Co-host and Director of
Promotions. “Then, as we were standing on the steps of the church
watching the rain end, two rainbows side-by-side took over the sky
to remind us again of God’s promise. We can make it through anything
with His love." A total of $18,997.17 was raised. (6/25)

Every few weeks, I do the “From the Heart” segment on Frank

doing. We try to focus on the difference that one person can make,
and we’ve talked about everything from a young boy who is collecting
handheld gaming systems for cancer patients at CHLA, to a lady who
founded a “Make-A-Wish” type foundation for senior citizens in
nursing homes, to a teenager who started a free summer camp for
children living in homeless shelters. It’s a real privilege to be

UPDATE:
KJIL/Meade in Southwest Kansas has recieved a $150,000
matching grant from the Lattner Family Foundation to help in the
rebuilding efforts of their tower that was heavily damaged at the
end of last year by an ice storm. With this grant, and an insurance
settlement, KJIL may be able to erect their new tower debt free.
In addition KJIL personality Bill
Lurwick tells HisAir.Net the station
continues to minister in the wake of the Greensburg Kansas F5 Tornado
that struck last week. KJIL's studios are just 60 miles west of
Greensburg, and the town was part of the heart of the stations coverage
area. KJIL is acting as a central clearing house for information, and
also ministering with coordinating donations to the affected areas. KJIL
is also planning 2 benefit concerts for the community featuring Mark
Schultz, a Kansas native, and another featuring Jeremy Camp, with all
proceeds going to the tornado relief fund. Want to help? Visit

listeners want to partner in relief email

Salem
Communications Corporation announced results for the three month
period ended March 31, 2007. Commenting on the company's results, Edward
G. Atsinger III, president and CEO, said, "We achieved total revenue
growth of 7.8% in the first quarter of 2007 with net broadcasting
revenue growing 3.4% to $50.4 million and the Internet and publishing
businesses growing revenue 73.9% to $5.7 million. Within the radio
business, block programming revenue increased 8.8% and advertising
revenue decreased 1.6%. This advertising decline is principally
attributable to high sales staff vacancies, which we are working to
fill, and the continued softness of the radio advertising market. The
solid growth in non-broadcast media is a direct result of our strategic
emphasis on developing new media businesses that exploit the promotional
capability and content resources of our radio assets." (5/9)

WJQK/Grand
Rapids (Positive Hits JQ99) has named Gary Thompson as Music
Director and Afternoon Drive Announcer effective July 1st. "To be
able to land a talent like Gary and hire him away from secular radio
makes us very excited about the future. Gary will have an impact on
the station from the moment he walks in the door." said Troy West,
JQ99's Station Manager. "Gary has a great mind and feel for radio,
and I'm looking forward to handing over Programming duties to him in
the future."
Thompson's
Christian radio experience started at
KXOJ/Tulsa doing overnights. He's also
been with Tulsa stations
KCFO,
KRAV,
KWEN and
KKCM. as well as PD at
WCVO/Columbus. More recently, Thompson was
Associate Program Director for KXOJ from 2002-2006. Thompson has
spent the last year on air and in programming at Cox's
WHKO/Dayton.
Gary
says "Lanser Broadcasting has a 30 year tradition of excellence in
Christian Music radio. Les Lanser was one of the first owners in the
format to believe in the power of and all music format in CCM. Troy West
has been with the company 14 years. He and I have talked off and on for
the last 7 years about how great it would be to work together. Troy and
I are from the same small town in Kansas. I grew up listening to Troy in
the 1980's when he was a nutty morning DJ on KIKS in Iola, Ks. To work
with him now is an immense honor and pleasure. The fact that two Iola
boys have ended up together in the frozen north is further proof that
God has a sense of humor."
Thompson replaces Brian Nelson who leaves the station for a position
with Nascar radio network. (5/2)
