In Baton Rouge we are unique in the fact that for a
very long time the area didn’t have a 24 hour source
for gospel music. We filled that void some 5 years
ago and now our listeners won’t listen to anything
else.
2. What is the most fulfilling aspect to you
personally about Christian radio?
The most fulfilling aspect about Christian radio for
me is not only the opportunity to share the good news,
but more over it gives me the opportunity to encourage
and inspire myself.
3. How do you personally keep the ministry in the
business?
The ministry is more important to our listeners, and
without the listeners there would be no business. I
constantly remind my staff of this.
4. What is the criteria that determines if a song
receives airplay on your station?
First and foremost is it scripture-based, secondly is
the message clear and will it help someone on their
Christian journey, and of course it has to sound good.
5. What kind of promotions work best for your station?
Promotions that work best for our station are ones
that give the listeners the opportunity to share
personal triumphs and testimonies. Our listeners
appreciate promotions that not only give them the
chance to win something but to share something.
6. How do you think Christian Record labels can better
serve Christian radio?
I have a great relationship with label
representatives. The things that I find to work best
are to keep the lines of communications open and to
put the artist in touch with the station’s PD (i.e.
personal phones calls, interviews, meet and greets)
7. In your opinion what are the biggest obstacles
facing Christian radio today?
Probably the biggest obstacle would be convincing
potential clients that advertising on Christian radio
works.
8. What do you believe is the primary role of the
Christian radio air personality today?
Air personalities need to know that this is a ministry
and that every song you play and every word that comes
from you mouth has the potential to encourage,
inspire, and uplift our listeners.
9. What (if any) other Christian radio stations do you
consider as innovators today?
Any stations that have chosen to share the good news
of Jesus Christ are innovators.
10. Where do you see Christian radio in 5 years?
At the rapid pace in which Christian and Gospel radio
is growing it is only a matter of time before the
masses come to know the power of Christian radio.
