PAR VP of Programming/General Manager,
WPER Fredericksburg

Career Capsule: My love of radio started as a kid growing up in Brooklyn NY. My career has brought me wonderful radio experiences in Texas, North Carolina and Virginia where I have serve at PAR’s Positive Hits PER since 1999. I have enjoyed many roles within the industry such as Program Director; General Manager, Music Director and Morning/Afternoon air talent. Currently I serve at Positive Hits PER in Fredericksburg/Richmond VA as GM plus serve as the VP of Programming for Positive Alternative Radio.

1. Tell us what’s new at WPER…news, changes, expansion, with you… etc?

God has been amazing to PER as we recently expanded to blanket our state capitol in Richmond VA!

Growth in Fredericksburg has been amazing as well as we just ranked #2 with women 25-54!

2. What is the best programming advice you’ve been given? The worst?

Best: It’s all about her!

Worst: it’s all about us!

3. Some say more Christian stations in a market the better, do you agree with that, why or why not?

Hmmm! While there are pro’s like Iron sharpens iron, the gospel for whosoever will etc.

The cons may outweigh the good especially when the big boys with a big bat show up just because they can! While they may be sincere in reaching folks with the Gospel they cannot be sincere about serving my community because they don’t live here.

4. What is the ONE thing you must have everyday to do your job?

Alone time with God with His unmerited favor and amazing grace

5. Where will future Christian radio air talent come from?

Truthfully anywhere! Just look around you, Listen and cultivate

6. Do you feel syndication is good or bad for Christian radio?

It depends on the stations circumstance, Market size, financial picture etc. There are many stations using out of market voice trackers in brilliant ways! However, I believe deeply in community oriented local Christian radio where the team actually lives and worships there. My passion is to help them thrive where possible!

7. Generally speaking to the industry what are the biggest obstacles facing Christian radio?

Losing good people and providing less opportunity due to a shrinking number of radio stations positions.

8. Who are your radio heroes and influences? and why?

So many people have guided and mentored me through the years! Some I have worked with directly and many I have never met! Thank you for your hard work and sharing your craft.

My heroes are the folks I get to work with every day at PAR. They are some of the most passionate, smartest and wonderful people I’ve ever known. We have a mission and God is bringing it to pass. I am beyond gratitude for Eddie Baker and Brian Sanders letting me do what I do with our teams. You are my heroes!

In the words of scrooge” I don’t deserve to be this happy…”

  1. Taylor says:

This Man is one of my Favorite’s so far in my 26 years in Radio. As a New Girl in Christian Radio he spoke to me for over and hour on the phone before I was hired and really impacted me in ways that I can’t explain! He can walk into a room and everyone wants to listen! Frankie, Thank you for inspiring me and most of all allowing me to be very human, as many expect super human! You have a gift and I am glad I have experienced it!
